Hasiru Bengaluru

Helping the city breathe again

Why Hasiru Bengaluru?

Bengaluru was once celebrated for its tree-lined avenues, cool microclimates, and rich biodiversity. But today, the city's green legacy is under threat. Rapid urbanisation has led to shrinking green spaces, rising temperatures, poor air quality, and the loss of native flora and fauna.

Hasiru Bengaluru is a community-driven response to this crisis – an initiative to restore Bengaluru’s natural heritage by growing dense, self-sustaining native forests within the city. Apart from adding to Bengaluru’s beauty, a greener city is essential for public health, climate resilience, and long-term sustainability goals.

What Is Hasiru Bengaluru?

Hasiru Bengaluru is a high-density plantation programme that aims to regenerate ecological health and biodiversity in urban spaces.

The project focuses on:

Planting native tree and shrub species in degraded or unused city plots

Restoring biodiversity corridors and groundwater retention zones

Reducing urban heat islands and improving air quality

Building climate-adaptive neighborhoods rooted in natural ecosystems

How Are We Doing It?

The model being used draws inspiration from urban forestry practices. By planting a variety of native species closely together in a layered structure, we create dense, fast-growing, self-sustaining forests with minimal intervention after a few years.

Where Is This Happening?

Hasiru Bengaluru is currently being implemented across various parts of the city, especially in areas vulnerable to heat, dust, and ecological degradation. These include underused public land, institutional campuses, and community-identified green zones. We are working towards creating a dense tree cover across the city.

How Can You Help Reclaim Our Green City?

Contribute to Hasiru Bengaluru and help transform unused barren into living forests. Together, we can build a city that breathes again.
